Angiology

We diagnose and treat diseases of arteries and veins with all needed devices: Doppler, duplex ultrasound, DPPG (digital photo plethysmography), ankle brachial index (ABI), finger pressures and capillary perfusion. Capillaroscopy is a unique method of evaluation of capillaries.

We offer complex vascular (angiological) examination

Doppler (ultrasound) of blood-vessels

Ultrasound of blood vessels is a totally painless examination during which an ultrasonic probe is put onto the areas of running of vessels and veins, which are shown on the monitor. Vascular wall, narrowing or clogging, or speed of blood flow is assessed. Examination in the hands of an experienced doctor is very precise and it is possible to recommend optimal treatment based upon this examination.

Most commonly examined arteries and veins:

  • affection of lower limb arteries is shown by so called claudication (cramps during walking),
  • narrowing of the artery supplying kidney is shown by the disorder of the function of the kidney, or by high blood pressure,
  • narrowing of carotid (carotid artery=artery supplying the brain) is manifested in stroke,
  • aortic aunerysm can be manifested in stomachaches,
  • clogging of the deep lower limb veins (thrombosis) can be manifested by sudden swollen calf.

Non-invasive vascular examination

We are able to offer several painless diagnostic methods, which give precise image of the vascular system in our vascular laboratory (non-invasive vascular examination room)

  • ABI-examination with ultrasound (doppler) signal, which can evaluate level of poor circulation of lower limbs,
  • capillary perfusion-examination with special finger pneumoplethysmography, can reveal disorder of blood circulation in small blood-vessels (capillaries),
  • digital photo-plethysmography – is a sovereign method of examination of the venous swelling of limbs, for an assessment of level of venous disorder and for an assessment of its improvement (for example surgery of varicose veins)

Connection of all methods offers interesting services for specialists of other disciplines

For diabetologists - vascular diagnosis of the diabetic leg syndrome
For neurologists - exact diagnosis of thoracic-outlet syndromes
For vascular surgeons - diagnosis of improvable venous insufficiency, reflux points, examination of the patency of deep limb veins
For dermatologists - differential diagnosis of venous (leg) ulceration and swellings
For orthopedics - assessment of the vascular risk before orthopedic surgeries
For gynecologists - examination of the inner venous system in risk patients (with hormone contraception or HRT) and in pregnant women

Capillaroscopy

Moderní neinvazivní zobrazovací metoda kapilár nehtového lůžka. Speciálně upravená mikroskopie-kapilaroskopie umožňuje zobrazení kapilár v různém zvětšení a současně záznam, zpracování a archivaci kapilaroskopických obrazů v počítači.

  • child’s rheumatology (juvenile idiopathic arthritis, diffuse connective tissue disease, system lupus erythematosus, primary vasculitis etc.),
  • rheumatology (system scleroderma, dermatomyositis, MCTD, psoriasis, Raynaud’s disease, rheumatoid arthritis etc.),
  • angiology (Raynaud’s disease and Raynaud’s syndrome, vasculitis of small vessels, acrocyanosis, diabetes mellitus, algoneurodystrophy etc.),
  • radiology (chronic radiation disease-biologic dosimetry, acute irradiation),
  • internal medicine (anemia, hypertension, atherosclerosis etc.),

Lymphological clinic

Deals with lymphatic edema of limbs, so called lymphoedema, which come arise as a result of the damage of the lymphatic system. Classic example in the lower limbs is the edema after red plaque (erysipelas) or after gynecological surgeries, then edema on upper limbs after breast surgery.

Patient is thoroughly examined in the first stage, reasons of edema can be varied and not all edemas are lymphatic. Parts of the examination are: ultrasound (Doppler), examination of the venous function (plethysmography) and blood sampling (elimination of other reasons for edemas, e.g. thyroid gland, kidneys). After the diagnosis of Lymphoedema, we recommend and provide complex treatment, which is available at our specialized department: special short drawing bandages, or compression stockings, manual and instrumental lymph drainages (see section rehabilitation - lymph drainage, education of the patient and regular check-ups.
